Vision of the Harlot

The Vision of the Harlot

Part 4 of the Harlot of Babylon Series

Now that we know what the harlot is not, let’s find out what she is.

I want to give you a preview of the vision the Lord showed me. After studying the harlot for many months, the Lord pointed out four key indicators that would begin to form the vision.

First, the harlot rules over the kings of the earth. The kings of the earth are many, if not most, of the governments of the nations, past, present, and future.

Second, in her was found the blood of prophets and of saints and of all who have been slain on the earth. Slain means to be killed with violence. The blood of all those who have been killed with violence on the earth are on her hands. Every person killed in war, every murder, every aborted baby. It’s all on her!

Third, she is a harlot, and she is the mother of harlots. There was one harlot in the beginning, and she has been giving birth to many harlots throughout history.

Fourth, when God judges the harlot, the cities of the nations fall. She is in the cities of the nations, all over the earth. She is global.

What the Lord showed me is simply this. At the beginning of the Bible there was the first corporate rebellion of mankind against God. This rebellion was the city and tower of Babel. The city of Babel is the mother of the harlots. She is the first. She has been giving birth to many more harlots and spreading her evil throughout history. At the end of the Bible there is the harlot of Babylon. She is the final manifestation of what started at Babel. She is the final corporate rebellion of mankind against God. Babel was one city. The harlot is the great city. She is all the cities of the nations on the earth in one final rebellion against God before the coming of Messiah.

The harlot of Babylon is the demonic spirit of rebellion. Rebellion against the creator of heaven and earth. Rebellion against the plan of God. Her passion is to stop the plan of God. She is drunk with the blood of prophets and saints. The blood of all those who have been slain on the earth throughout history is on her. She has existed from the beginning and has continued to exist throughout history. She is responsible for most of the suffering of mankind. She rules over the kings of the earth. She brings the masses together to war against each other. She brings the masses together to rebel against God.

Take a bird’s eye view of the history of the world. It is dominated by strife, hatred, and war. Why is this? Why can’t people and nations work together and get along? We are not that evil, are we? Every person is a sinner. We all have sin in our lives. We all struggle with our fallen nature. This is not the harlot. The harlot takes sinful man and corrupts him completely and corporately. She takes sinners and creates cities, nations, and empires to do her bidding. She corrupts the kings and governments of the world. She causes them to rebel against God and slaughter each other. She is consumed with corrupting and destroying God’s greatest creation, mankind. She is consumed with corrupting and destroying you and me.

Babel and Babylon are the Same Word

The harlot is called Babylon the Great. The root word of Babylon is Babel. If you look up Babel in your Strong’s Hebrew dictionary you will see something like this:

h0894. בָּבֶל ḇâḇel; from 1101; confusion; Babel (i.e. Babylon), including Babylonia and the Babylonian empire: — Babel, Babylon.

Babel occurs 259 places in the Old Testament – It is translated as Babel two times in Genesis. We are familiar with Babel because of the tower of Babel story. Then after the tower of Babel story, Babel is translated 257 times as Babylon. They are the exact same word. The Hebrew letters are bet, bet, lamed.

In the New Testament, the Greek word for Babylon is of Hebrew origin, from h894. Again, Babel. Here is what you will see in the Strong’s Greek Dictionary:

Greek g0897. Βαβυλών Babylōn; of Hebrew origin (h894); Babylon, the capitol of Chaldaea (literally or figuratively (as a type of tyranny)): — Babylon.

Babel and Babylon are synonymous. We can call the Tower of Babel the Tower of Babylon, and we can call the harlot of Babylon the harlot of Babel. It makes no difference. It is the same word. Therefore, to understand the harlot of Babylon, we must investigate just what exactly happened at Babel.
