Prophecy of Micah

The Prophecy of Micah

Part 11 of the Harlot of Babylon Series

The prophet Micah prophesied about the antichrist of the last days. Micah chapter five is most famous for prophesying about the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem. It then continues and prophesies about the return of Jesus at the end of the age and the destruction of His enemies. Nimrod, the Assyrian, is specifically mentioned.

Let’s look at verses five and six. This ‘One’ is Messiah and the context is His return to the earth and the establishment of the Messianic Kingdom.

Micah 5:5 This One will be our peace.
When the Assyrian invades our land,
When he tramples on our citadels,
Then we will raise against him
Seven shepherds and eight leaders of men.
6 They will shepherd the land of Assyria with the sword,
The land of Nimrod at its entrances;
And He will deliver us from the Assyrian
When he attacks our land
And when he tramples our territory.

When the Assyrian invades our land is a reference to the antichrist attacking Israel just before the return of Messiah. The Assyrian is Nimrod, the antichrist. Verse six says that the antichrist will attack and trample the land of Israel. Then Jesus will return and deliver Israel. This is the Gog Magog/Armageddon war that we are all familiar with.

Why is Nimrod called the Assyrian? Let’s go back to Genesis again.

Gen 10:10 The beginning of his kingdom was Babel and Erech and Accad and Calneh, in the land of Shinar. 11 From that land he went forth into Assyria, and built Nineveh and Rehoboth-Ir and Calah, 12 and Resen between Nineveh and Calah; that is the great city.

The beginning of Nimrod’s kingdom was Babel. After the Lord dispersed the people of Babel, Nimrod traveled north and built the kingdom of Assyria. Therefore, Nimrod is called the Assyrian. His capital, Nineveh, along with the other cities, was the great city after Babel. This great city was the continuation of the evil of Babel. Both Babel and Nineveh were built by Nimrod.

Jonah was sent by the Lord to Nineveh.

Jonah 1:2 “Arise, go to Nineveh the great city and cry against it, for their wickedness has come up before Me.”

Nineveh, the capital of Assyria, was a wicked city. However, at hearing of the coming judgement preached by Jonah, the people of Nineveh repented! A prophet came and prophesied of coming destruction because of their evil. I believe this is a foreshadow of the prophesying of the two-witness company of overcomers during the tribulation. These prophets warn the evil people all over the earth of the coming judgment. Just as the wicked people of the Assyrian kingdom repented in the past, hopefully, the wicked people of the final Assyrian kingdom, the antichrist’s kingdom, will repent.

The two-witness company of prophets live and walk in the heavenly realm. The heavens have been opened unto them. They have been granted supernatural power and authority. Wherever they go, people with see and hear the truth. This is God’s final warning to the people of the earth. It is their final chance to repent.

I know it says at the end of Revelation chapter nine that the ones who were not killed during the second woe still did not repent. However, God told Jonah that He would destroy Nineveh. When He saw their repentance, God repented! He changed His mind and did not destroy them. Jonah complained about this but what was God’s response?

Jonah 4:11 Should I not have compassion on Nineveh, the great city in which there are more than 120,000 persons who do not know the difference between their right and left hand, as well as many animals?”

Should I not have compassion? The people of Nineveh had never heard the truth. They had been raised in the evil that Nimrod had created years before. This is similar to many of the people on the earth in the last days. They have been raised in ungodly homes or in the same false religious systems that Nimrod created thousands of years ago. Should not God have compassion on them just like He did on Nineveh?

For all those reading this who love their pets, take heart that God mentioned the animals in Nineveh, as well!

Let’s look at Joel chapter two. This is a description of the last day army of God, the two-witness company of overcomers. Look what the prophet says about people repenting during the tribulation.

Joel 2:11 The Lord utters His voice before His army;
Surely His camp is very great,
For strong is he who carries out His word.
The day of the Lord is indeed great and very awesome,
And who can endure it?
12 “Yet even now,” declares the Lord,
“Return to Me with all your heart,
And with fasting, weeping and mourning;
13 And rend your heart and not your garments.”
Now return to the Lord your God,
For He is gracious and compassionate,
Slow to anger, abounding in lovingkindness
And relenting of evil.
14 Who knows whether He will not turn and relent
And leave a blessing behind Him?

Joel says the Lord is gracious and compassionate. Slow to anger, abounding in lovingkindness and relenting of evil. All that is required is for the people to return to Him with all their heart. Then in verse fourteen the prophet says one of the most encouraging statements in the Bible.

Who knows whether He will not turn and relent and leave a blessing behind Him?

This opens the door to anyone who repents. Who knows if the Lord will turn and relent and leave a blessing instead of judgement?

The heart of our God is always first and foremost mercy and lovingkindness! The heart of our God is compassion! He will give everyone every opportunity to enter into His grace and lovingkindness. Let us pray that everyone repents!
