The Prophecy of Jeremiah Chapter 51
Part 13 of the Harlot of Babylon Series
Jeremiah 51 is a prophecy about the judgement of Babylon. It contains a partial fulfillment and a final fulfillment. The partial fulfillment is the judgment against Babylon during the Babylonian captivity in Jeremiah’s day. This is the capture of Babylon by the Medes and Persians in 539 BC and is specifically mentioned in verse 11.
The final fulfillment takes place at the end of the age. It is the judgement of the harlot of Babylon, the great city. I will highlight a few verses that apply to the final judgement. John is referencing these verses when writing about the judgment of the harlot in Revelation.
Flee! Get out!
Jer 51:6 Flee from the midst of Babylon, and each of you save his life!
Do not be destroyed in her punishment, for this is the Lord’s time of vengeance;
He is going to render recompense to her.
Jeremiah says flee from the midst of Babylon! Save your life! If you don’t get out, you will be destroyed in her punishment! The Lord’s time of vengeance is the final destruction of the harlot at the end of the age.
Now listen to what John says in Revelation.
Rev 18:4 I heard another voice from heaven, saying, “Come out of her, my people, so that you will not participate in her sins and receive of her plagues; 5 for her sins have piled up as high as heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities.
Jeremiah repeats this plea in verses 45 and 50. Notice that he uses the same term as John, ‘My people’.
Jer 51:45 “Come forth from her midst, My people, and each of you save yourselves from the fierce anger of the Lord.”
Jer 51:50 You who have escaped the sword, Depart! Do not stay!
These prophets are saying the same thing. Flee! Get out! My people! This is a plea to the church in the last days to get out of the harlot. Get out before the vengeance of God comes!
A golden cup of wine intoxicating the nations with sexual immorality.
Jer 51:7 Babylon has been a golden cup in the hand of the Lord, intoxicating all the earth.
The nations have drunk of her wine; therefore the nations are going mad.
Jeremiah says the harlot has a golden cup that is intoxicating all the earth. The nations are going mad!
Again, listen to what John says in Revelation.
Rev 17:2 …with whom the kings of the earth committed acts of immorality, and those who dwell on the earth were made drunk with the wine of her immorality.”
Rev 17:4 …having in her hand a gold cup full of abominations and of the unclean things of her immorality…
Rev 18:3 For all the nations have drunk of the wine of the passion of her immorality, and the kings of the earth have committed acts of immorality with her…
Those who dwell on the earth are drunk with the wine of the harlot’s immorality. She has a golden cup full of abominations. All the nations have drunk the wine of the passion of her immorality. Immorality means sexual immorality. The nations are drunk and are going mad with sexual immorality.
The harlot dwells by many waters.
Jer 51:13 O you who dwell by many waters, abundant in treasures, your end has come, the measure of your end.
John repeats this phrase twice.
Rev 17:1 Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and spoke with me, saying, “Come here, I will show you the judgment of the great harlot who sits on many waters…
Rev 17:15 And he said to me, “The waters which you saw where the harlot sits, are peoples and multitudes and nations and tongues.
The waters are peoples, multitudes and nations and tongues. In the last days, the harlot of Babylon, the great city, is global. She is everywhere on the earth. She is not one city or nation or church. She is the last day final global corporate rebellion of mankind against God.
The slain of all the earth is on the harlot.
Jer 51:49 Indeed Babylon is to fall for the slain of Israel, as also for Babylon the slain of all the earth have fallen.
Babylon is to fall for the slain of Israel. This is the first partial fulfillment. The captivity of Israel. Then Jeremiah continues and says the slain of all the earth is on her.
In Revelation, the blood of all those who have been slain on the earth is on her!
Rev 18:24 And in her was found the blood of prophets and of saints and of all who have been slain on the earth.”
Slain means to be killed with violence. All the wars, murders, abortions. They are all on her. Her evil influence is why mankind can never seem to be at peace. This will continue and only get worse until the Prince of Peace destroys her!
Come out of her, my people!
