Daniel 9:27 He Will Confirm the Covenant with the Many

The mystery of Daniel 9:27 solved!

I have been seeking God on Daniel 9:27 for over a decade. We’ll just do the first part of the verse today.

Dan 9:27 And he will confirm the covenant with the many for one week.

For years I have asked the Lord who the ‘he’ is. What covenant? And who are the many.

I have read the commentaries on this and none of them ever sat with me. Most say the ‘he’ is the anti-Christ. The covenant is a peace treaty with Israel, and the many are the Jews.

They say the anti-Christ will make a peace treaty with Israel during Daniel’s Seventieth Week. Then the anti-Christ will break the peace treaty in the middle of the week and set himself up in the rebuilt temple in Jerusalem.

Again, the Holy Spirit within me never bore witness to this. So, for over a decade I have been seeking God on this and He has finally given me some light on the subject. This is what He showed me.

The ‘he’ is Jesus the Messiah. The covenant He confirms is the New Covenant. The many are the Christians.

Remember, there is no upper or lower case in Hebrew so don’t worry about the lower case ‘he’ that the translators did.

So, how did I arrive at this? The Lord took me to Peter’s sermon in Acts chapter two, of all places. This is when the Holy Spirit was poured out and there were signs and wonders and three thousand got saved.

16 but this is what was spoken of through the prophet Joel:
17 ‘And it shall be in the last days,’ God says,
‘That I will pour forth of My Spirit on all mankind;
And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
And your young men shall see visions,
And your old men shall dream dreams;
18 Even on My bondslaves, both men and women,
I will in those days pour forth of My Spirit
And they shall prophesy.

This is the first part of Peter’s sermon from Joel 2. It is the birthing of the New Covenant. The new covenant in the blood of Messiah. Now for the second part.

19 ‘And I will grant wonders in the sky above
And signs on the earth below,
Blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke.
20 ‘The sun will be turned into darkness
And the moon into blood,
Before the great and glorious day of the Lord shall come.
21 ‘And it shall be that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’

The second part of Peter’s sermon is the Day of the Lord! The sun darkened and the moon turns to blood is quoted by John in Revelation chapter six, the sixth seal. Notice it says the sixth seal is before the great and glorious day of the Lord. The sixth seal takes place just before the seventh seal. The seventh seal is the Day of the Lord. It is Daniel’s Seventieth Week.

The Sixth Seal—Rev 6:12
I looked when He broke the sixth seal, and there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth made of hair, and the whole moon became like blood;

16 and they *said to the mountains and to the rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the presence of Him who sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb; 17 for the great day of their wrath has come, and who is able to stand?”

The great day of their wrath is the Day of the Lord. It is the seven year period from Daniel 9. He confirms, or strengthens, the covenant with the many for one week.

The word, confirm, in our verse means to strengthen, to make stronger. This verse is not talking about the anti-Christ making a peace treaty with Israel. It is talking about the Messiah strengthening an existing covenant, the New Covenant, just before the Day of the Lord, Daniel’s Seventieth Week.

Now this is where things get exciting!

The New Covenant was birthed at Pentecost by Messiah when He poured out His Spirit. It is the first part of Joel’s prophecy, as Peter said. Then, Peter quotes the second part of Joel’s prophecy, which refers to the Day of the Lord. Messiah is going to strengthen what He started in Acts chapter 2. At the beginning of the Church Age, He created the New Covenant by pouring out His Spirit. At the end of the Church Age, He strengthens the New Covenant for the final preaching of the Gospel.

How did Jesus begin the Church Age? With great signs and wonders! How does Jesus end the Church Age? By even greater signs and wonders!

Let’s look at another verse in Joel chapter two. This verse is just before the section that Peter quotes in his sermon. The early and latter rain.

Joel 2:23

So rejoice, O sons of Zion,
And be glad in the Lord your God;
For He has given you the early rain for your vindication.
And He has poured down for you the rain,
The early and latter rain as before.

There is an early rain and a latter rain. The early rain begins the season with planting. The seeds of the kingdom were sowed at Pentecost with the birth of the New Covenant.

The latter rain is before the harvest. It is the rain that makes the fields white for harvest. It brings the fields to maturity. The bearing of much fruit.

James refers to this in chapter five.

James 5:7 Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. The farmer waits for the precious produce of the soil, being patient about it, until it gets the early and late rains. 8 You too be patient; strengthen your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is near.

The context of this verse is the coming of the Lord! The latter rain, the strengthening of the covenant, takes place just before the coming of the Lord! It happens after the sixth seal, at the beginning of the seventh seal, the Day of the Lord.

Now let’s go back to the last verse that Peter quotes from Joel chapter two.

Joel 2:21 ‘And it shall be that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’

How many get saved during the Day of the Lord? Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord!

Matt 24:14 This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the wholeworld as a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come.

Who are preaching this gospel of the Kingdom to the whole world? Those who have had the latter rain poured out upon them. Those who have been patient for the latter rain. The overcomers. The great army that Joel chapter two begins with.

Jesus strengthens the New Covenant with the church, the many. This is the second great outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Great signs and wonders. Greater works than these, you will do! Preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom to the lost world! With mighty signs and wonders bearing witness to the truth! Millions, billions, getting saved!

The purpose of the strengthening of the new covenant is for the Gospel!

You don’t want to miss this. You want to be in this great army. This army is as the dawn spread upon the mountains! As Joel says, it is the glorious last day army of God!

This is the church’s greatest hour! Forget about the pre-trib rapture fairy tale. It is a myth, as Paul calls it. The strength of the pre-trib rapture is fear. Just admit it.

Why would the Lord raise up a great army of gospel preachers just to pull them out before the Day of the Lord?

Where are the Joshua and Calebs who did not fear the giants? Where are David and his mighty men? Where are the Maccabees who said, ‘Not in my town! Not on my watch?’

Let’s take the Marines approach. Instead of left behind, how about No man left behind!

You can take the easy way out and float up in the sky in some fairy tale pre-trib rapture if you want, but I am staying for the great outpouring with signs and wonders! We think Acts chapter two was great? We haven’t seen anything yet!
