High Alert, Tell Rifaat in the news
By Craig C. White
Every Christian should be alerted when they hear about Tell Rifaat in the news. Tell Rifaat is called “Arpad” in Jeremiah 49:23 concerning the destruction of Damascus. This week the Turkish and Russian defense secretaries are discussing immediate military actions regarding the northwestern Syria cities of Idlib and Tell Rifaat. The Turkish Army is allied with multiple Al-Qaeda factions in Idlib. Al-Qaeda in the Idlib province are fighting against the Syrian Army in the Hamah and Aleppo provinces. Tell Rifaat is located in the far northwestern corner of the Aleppo Province.
Tell Rifaat is a predominately Kurdish city but the Kurds have allowed some Syrian government troops inside of Tell Rifaat in order to protect the city from Turkish aggression. The Turkish Army has been shelling Tell Rifaat from the Turkish border for the past several years. Now that the Turkish Army has entered Syria they are amassed to the north and to the west of Tell Rifaat. The Turkish Army has continued to strengthen their military positions in northwestern Syria.
The Prophet Jeremiah says that when Hamah and Tell Rifaat hear evil reports then the residents of Damascus will flee and Damascus will be destroyed. In Jeremiah 49:23 the northwestern Syria city of Arpad is called Tell Rifaat today.
Jeremiah 49:23 Concerning Damascus. Hamath is confounded, and Arpad: for they have heard evil tidings: they are fainthearted; there is sorrow on the sea; it cannot be quiet.
This week the Syrian Army 5th Legion mobilized from southern Syria towards the Idlib Province. Turkish President Erdogan called on Russian President Putin for an emergency meeting about Idlib. The talk has been about deescalation in Idlib but the military presence of the Syrian and the Turkish Armies are only growing. Erdogan may seek permission from Russia to launch a Turkish offensive against Hamah and Tell Rifaat. That would certainly qualify as “evil reports”. In the meantime Turkey is taking over northwestern Syria.
Turkey supports the multiple Al-Qadea factions in Idlib. Al-Qaeda has continually been attacking the Syrian Army across the demilitarized zones between Hamah and Idlib. The Syrian Army has decisively beaten back Al-Qaeda at every turn. I am certain that Turkey will not stand for that. Turkish President Erdogan said that the sole reason why the Turkish Army has entered Syria is to remove Syrian President Assad from power in Damascus.
According to Jeremiah the Turkish Army will attack Hamah and Tell Rifaat and will then march southward to destroy Damascus. Afterwards Turkey will lead the forces that are now fighting in Syria into northern Israel. Damascus is located only thirty miles away from the Golan Heights.
